FAITH – HOPE – FORGIVENESS by Growing Older

CONCERNS FOR MY SOUL

A few years ago, a lady wrote to me reagrding my souls. I appreciate her concern. Many times, I receive letters from someone condemning me to hell because I am not a member of their ‘religion.”  Most do not include their name or adress. this dear lady did. below is my reply to her. I trust that you will read it and study your Bible and gain “Spiritual Insights” as to what the Bible teaches.

Dear Sarah;

Thank you for your remarks scribbled on our bulletin and sent back to us. I would like to make a few comments regarding your comments as you are in great error not knowing Scriptures. I also appreciate your concern for my souls and will answer, best I can, your comments written to me. You also make several false accusations regarding what we, as Baptist, believe.

You tend to be “hung up” on the Sabbath. First, let me say: 1. The pope did not change the Sabbath. The only place I have found that statement, was in 7th Day Adventist writings.  2.  The Sabbath is Saturday; which, in all reality, is from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. 3. We have no ties with Rome nor did Baptist come out of Rome. We are not Protestants, but rather, Baptists and the Ana Baptists of old etc.

4. Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy — your quotes, is from Exodus 20:8. In the New Testament, all of the 10 Commandments are repeated EXCEPT one …. Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy.  5.  The Sabbath is for Israel and not for Christians: Exodus 31:16 “Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant”.

Levitcus 24:8 Every Sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.

I am not a Jew and Baptists are not Jews. Jews or Israelites, are commanded to keep the Sabbath, Christians are not commanded to do so.

Note the following:

Matt 28:1  In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Mark 16:2  And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

Mark 16:9  Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Luke 24:1  Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

John 20:1  The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

John 20:19  Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Every Sunday, is the Lord’s day; in essence, Easter; as that was the day that Jesus arose victoriously from the grave.

You seem “hung up” on the pope and idols. As I stated, we are not catholic, did not come out of Rome and have NO TIES with Rome. The Roman Catholic church did not exist until approximately 350-400 A.D. well after the Baptist which go back to John The Baptist.

You are OFF on how to get to heaven, as per your note to me. You wrote: The Bible teaches that three things must  be believed and be truth before they can enter heaven. One, love the Father more than you love God and love Him with all your being, love Him first!  Two, keep the 10 commandments, all 10 commandments, not just 9.  Three, Accept Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, open the door and invite Him into your life.

My dear friend, you would have a lot of searching to find what you said in Scripture. You are putting words into the mouth of God and His Word. NOWHERE in the Bible does it say what you have said in totality. Galatians 3:2 “This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

This tells us that “if” we could be saved by the Law ….. Jesus death was a waste. Your faith in keeping the Law has now relegated Jesus to a vain or wasteful death …. in other words…. he died for noting “if” the Law would save or help to save a soul.

Galatians 3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

You see, 430 BEFORE the Law … Abraham believed (faith) unto God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.

Jas 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Galatians 3:19  Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Galatians 3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a

 schoolmaster.

Notice what happened in the Book of Acts regarding this very thing:

Acts 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

Acts 15:6  And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

Acts 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Hmmmm….. folks back in the Apostles days had the same idea you are having. The met, discussed the matter thoroughly and came to the conclusion that to for them to demand that folks keep the Law of Moses, would be putting a yoke  upon the disciples neck.

They said: “Why tempt ye God ….”

To follow the thoughts or doctrines that you are so ignorantly espousing, is to tempt God.

In verse 11, they concluded that Jews and Gentiles alike, are saved by the grace of God and nothing else. No Law, No works etc.  Kinda throws out your Sabbath keeping, don’t it?

Romans 3:28  “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”

Salvation is a person realizing that they are a sinner: Romans 3:23. Realizing that Jesus died for their sins on the Cross of Calvary, was buried and rose again the third day. Then receiving Jesus as personal Saviour.  Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10, Romans 10:13.

My friend, you need to simply trust in Jesus as Saviour; not the Law. The Law cannot save and it never did save a soul.

If you want to keep the Law, the Law is more than the 10 Commandments; it is the 1st 5 Books of the Bible. According to Law, if a person does not keep the Sabbath, they are to be stoned.

Do you practice that?

Do you offer lambs on the 1st Sabbath of the year, according to Law?

Do you let the land rest on a Sabbath year?

Do you offer burnt offerings on the Sabbath?

These are just a few Laws regarding the keeping of the Sabbath in the Old Testament. If you do not keep them along with the other Laws, then you really have a problem.

Some folks like to pick what they believe and then try to fit a few verses around them to try and support their belief system; this is erroneous, false doctrine and the mark of a cult.

My prayer for you is that you will receive Jesus Christ as personal Saviour and trust in Him only to take away your sins.

Thank you so much for writing to me and I trust that you will study your Bible for what it says and not just try to read it for what you want it to say.

Sincerely;
