“How God Can Work In Your Life?”

Introduction:  In our lives, we receive “unconscious preparation” for our lives. These are things that God allows into our lives that prepare us to be useful in the Lord’s work. Then there are the choices that we make in response to these things.

The Lord will give us understanding in these areas if we, by faith, look “beyond” all of the secondary “things” and see God’s hand at work in us. It is easier, in hindsight, to say that we can look back and see how God has worked in our lives. We see it now – but did not see it then.

We find it hard to recognize God’s hand in our lives when ‘things” are happening to us now.

Let me give you a couple examples:  Acts 7:54-60

1. Story of Stephen – faithful deacon – preaching God’s Word

2. The listeners hated the message and killed the messenger

3. This still happens when God’s people tell the truth

4. They may not pick up stones and hurl at you & me – but will use their tongues to cut you to pieces and try to destroy you & me.

5. many times – the attack is led by someone behind the scenes who prods others to carry out their dirty work. Yet, we must stand for the Truth and for our Bible based convictions.

6. 30 yrs later – Paul shares his testimony how God had worked in his life

    Acts 22:17-26

7. Paul tells us how God dealt with him, Paul was reminded of Stephan

God’s Preparation of us, to be made useful,  began before we were born

Jeremiah 1:5

This ought to help us think more about the home we grew up in; our parents; our family; people we knew and our friends; teachers; jobs; etc.

Perhaps you can relate to this story:

Years ago, a young boy was working on a huge English estate. By accident, he stepped into an area where he began to sink into the earth. It was like quicksand.

A farmer who was working in the fields was passing by and saw the young boy. He rushed to him and risked his own life to save the young boy. He did not know, when he saved the boys life, that the boy was the son of a wealthy family.

The father of the boy promised the farmer to educate the farmer’s son with the finest education possible. The was to show his gratitude to the farmer for saving his sons life.

Years later, the farmer’s son finished his education and became a great doctor. God used this doctor to discover an antidote for an allergic reaction to a certain medicine. Later on, one of England’s great leaders took that medicine and became seriously ill.

He faced death and needed the antidote. It was the young boy, who had been trained as a doctor, who was able to administer the antidote to that great leader.

That great, famous, leader was the boy who was saved by the farmer. The great leader’s name was Winston Churchill. God spared his life two times through the same family.

Unconscious preparations in our lives are the things we do not choose for ourselves, but God chooses for us. Our all-wise God knows what He is doing.  Trust Him.

My father was from Alabama and I was raised in Detroit. My dad had a 10th grade education. He did not receive Christ until he was 62 years old. Dad grew up during the depression, entered the Army during WW II.  He was a steel worker, worked hard and faced many hardships. He was a very smart man and bought and sold property, houses etc. and made something of him self. My dad taught me a strong work ethic, to be honest and keep your word.

When my dad received Christ, he shared with me that he wasted so many years for the Lord and wished he had been saved when he was a young boy. You can’t go back and relive your life, he said. So he lived the rest of his life for the Lord, right up to the end. He was faithful.

My mother was born and raised in Kentucky, one of 16 children. She had a 6th grade education and went through the depression. Mom also taught honesty, hard work, good moral values and she taught us to love. She was 57 years old when she was saved.

Both parents taught me not to quit, not to run from trouble and problems. When problems arise, find a workable solution and take care of it – not sweeping them under the rug.

But, both mom and dad had something I needed in parents to prepare me for what God wanted me to do.

If you look at your life; and have had many terrible ‘things” happen to you; a lot of “things” went wrong; struggles etc. But if you look at it in a Biblical perspective, you can begin to see that God allowed adversity and other circumstances in your life to prepare you to be the person God wants you to be. That’s why we can start to understand I Thess. 5:18 – “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”.

There was an unconscious preparation going on in your life all the time. There is no greatness in life without trouble that we can deal with in the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

Think about how God always works in our lives to bring us to the place where we cannot make it without Him.
