“The Christian’s Life Is To Be Guided By The Holy Spirit”

The Christian’s Life Is To be Guided By The Holy Spirit

Ephesians 5:18

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live for Christ.  In the Christian’s life, all empowerment comes from God.  He will give us the resources we need, if we will love Him enough to obey Him.

(read Ephesians 5:18) – When a person is intoxicated – the liquor controls their actions.

In contrast – God wants to control your actions. How? By our yielding to Him, by our desire to follow Him and He will enable you to carry out His commandments. This is not by our own power – but by His power working within you.

I Thessalonians 5:24

God desires to work in and through your life.

The Q? is … Will you let Him?

I Corinthians 2:9-10 –   There are a lot of ‘things” that are distractions to us. They try to “hinder” our spiritual growth.

Make time to spend with God – make time to pray – to read His Word – to seek His will – to do His work. Then, God will reveal His perfect will to you and he will make you usable for His plan for your life.

Galatians 5:16-18 – The Holy Spirit will guide you and lead you away from sin.

The Holy Spirit guides us – teaches us – He convicts our conscience of  sin. Why?

His leading is God’s way of reminding us to follow Him.

Ephesians 5:18 – Ask Him to “fill” you with the Holy Spirit and to guide you each and every day.

Do this everyday.  We need “filling” everyday because we get empty. We need the bread of life and the living water to satisfy our spiritual hunger and thirst.

Just as we get hungry for food and something to drink everyday – we also need to satisfy our spiritual appetite and to be “filled” with God’s  Holy Spirit.

John 16:13 – God’s Holy Spirit is a “guide” for us.

Guide = show you the way = lead you.

As Christians – we NEED power in our lives. In our text –  Ephesians 5:18 – the contrast is set forth before us.  We will either let “self” – sinful habits – our desires – or God, control our habits – our thinking – our actions.

Ask Him to “fill” you with the Holy spirit of God – Yield to Him. This is also an act of ‘dying to self.” Trust in the Lord and follow His Word.
